First, we use Custom Fields in Brightcove.
1. Upload or choose the existing video ID
2. Edit video ID and set language under Custom fields
3. You will receive an email once the subtitles are ready (firstname.lastname@example.org)
4. Email subject and description can be modified as needed.
If you update/replace a video it is possible to update the subtitles.
1. Select “no transcription” which deletes the language tag but not the existing subtitles.
2. Re-select relevant language and the process starts over.
3. Remember to delete the old subtitles
The solution can be set up in 10 minutes and is based upon Brightcoves API. We just need Account ID, Client ID and Client Secret.
Subtitles are per default uploaded as a draft. This means that you need to publish it to have it visible in the player. This can of course be changed if needed so subtitles are auto-published. You can also set up the integration, so everything is automatically transcribed without adding custom fields based on the default language. Subtitle labels in the video player can be set up custom i.e. Danish as “Dansk” in the player.

People who are in a noisy place can still follow the video successfully. Studies also show that most viewers in public places watch videos without sound. Without subtitles, this whole audience is left without information, especially people with impaired hearing.
Mumbles and accents that were otherwise difficult to understand are much easier to interpret with subtitles. Studies show that students often use and download transcripts to get a quick overview of their lectures and to look up difficult words.
Subtitles facilitate your efforts because they already contain many of the keywords relevant to your content. This makes it easier to: find the relevant video, find specific videos in a large video archive, and improves your SEO ranking. Each word is timestamped so it is easy to navigate directly to a specific word in the video.
Subtitles allow people to understand languages that aren’t their mother tongue/they don’t speak by translating words or sentences into the user’s preferred language. Converting spoken words into text opens up the possibility of easier translation, additionally, automatic translation of subtitles is on its way.
Subtitles support learning a new language and help people who don’t know the language to still understand the content. Studies show that subtitles increase the learning of new languages since the viewer connects images with specific words and language.
